I remembered how my parents would always buy a can of MaLing luncheon meat whenever we visited Chinatown. We lived above a Chinese takeaway, so we usually had access to the shop’s supplies—beef, pork, chicken, prawns, you name it. So why did we sometimes have luncheon meat for dinner?
I’ve only just realised: it was about comfort. A quiet reminder of home.
